The Royal Palace of Madrid - skip the line tickets!
The Royal Palace of Madrid (Palacio Real) stands on the site of the former Alcazar of Madrid, a medieval fortress gevorm by John II, Charles V and Philip II, who in 1561 made the Spanish monarchy's official residence.
The Spanish Monarchy was at the time an empire and that is clearly reflected in the Palace! After a devastating fire, the palace was built and designed grander than ever! With such Escalera Principal (large staircase), Salón del Trono (Throne Room), Comedor del Gala (dining room), Cappila Real (Royal Chapel), Farmacia Real (Royal Pharmacy) and the Salón de Columnas (ceremonial hall).
The Campo del Moro garden
An absolute highlight is the gardens of the palace. These are known as Campo del Moro and designed by Philip War (known for his fight against the still form the Netherlands in the 80 Years War).
